Sanctification of the Spirit
The word "sanctification" not only means to be holy it also means to be set apart or separated. This term has often been used for a work of the Holy Spirit in a believers life but if looked at more closely it will be clearly seen that it is the work of the Holy Spirit in the life of a sinner. In this series we deal with the work of the Holy Spirit in the life of a sinner before they are born-again. Twice in the New Testament this term "sanctification of the Spirit" is used for this unique and special work (II Thess.2:13; I Pet.1:2). Both times it is placed prior to salvation, belief of the truth, obedience, and the sprinkling of the Blood. There is a special separating work of the Holy Spirit in the life of a sinner that prepares them for salvation. Because of misunderstands or ignorance of this truth many are called "saved" in our churches who have not been converted. It has also led to a strong emphasis upon man-made techniques in evangelism and the loss of confidence in the supernatural drawing work of the Spirit of God. These messages are given in order to restore the truth of the genuine work of the Holy Spirit in drawing men to salvation in Christ.
